Instructions for Using the Compostable Bag Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate how much CO₂ consumption can be reduced by switching from conventional plastic to compostable plastic.

Enter the length, width, and thickness of your current conventional plastic bag.
In the compostable bag section, input the thickness of the compostable bag (in microns).

Note: Compostable plastic bags require approximately half the thickness of conventional plastic bags.
For example, if you currently use a 51‑micron conventional bag, select a 25‑micron compostable bag.

We recommend using the right thickness of TGP’s compostable material to save costs and lower your CO₂ emissions.

Compostable plastics are not covered by the government’s minimum thickness rules, so you can use thinner bags without any issues.

TGP’s special compostable formula makes sure that even with less thickness, the bags stay strong and perform just like regular plastic.
